A Woman on the Moon
A Woman on the Moon premiered in Hong Kong in December 2022 to a sold-out season, and is now being redeveloped. Featuring two protagonists and a chorus , A Woman on the Moon tells a contemporary reimagining of the Chinese myth of Chang E, weaving magical realism with cross-cultural reclamation through physical theatre and poetry. The piece explores rotting and decaying, through body terror, monogamy, and the facade of domesticity by appropriating its original mythology. Written through an intercultural feminist lens, it aims to connect with audiences who identify as such as well as the Chinese/Cantonese diaspora. Rich and interrogative, A Woman on the Moon confronts its audiences, challenging our perceptions of womanhood, marriage, and decay.
